Paul here. Tonight will be the last Larroquettes show. We’ve had a chance to play with alot of awesome bands, meet allot of cool people, hear alot of great music, had some great times and even got a tour or two in. I myself would like to thank the following people for being there at our shows, helping us with booking shows, giving us a chance, contributing to the band somehow, put us up, fed us, bought our merch and where cool to us.

Tomorrow we throw ourselves to rock gods in the name of supporting the American Legion in Chicago. It’s actually the last American Legion standing in Chicago. My dad was a proud member of the American Legion post 57 in Elgin IL. I remember going there often with him so he could shoot the shit with his friends while I sat idly by enjoying my coke. We’d go there in the dead of summer to cool off in the AC as we never had AC in our house. Blinded by the sunlight, I’d find it dark as the lighting was low but the AC was nice and cool. Top that with a ice cold coke, it was refreshing as hell. They had $2 burger and a fish frynight every Thursday night. It would be packed with folks, mostly elderly vets and their families. I was always the youngest there as I should mention I was birthed late in my pops life. He proudly served in WWII even with a bum (fake do to an illness) hip, he served how ever he could. Even in the National Guard he was very active in New Mexico where he grew up. No handicap could keep him from at least trying to serve his country any way he could. The Legion post57 donated their space for my pops after funeral family dinner as well and in 2003 they honored him for his service by presenting my mom with a special plaque. Im lucky to be able to observe the culture there and to be a son of a vet. My pop was a proud hard working dude and I am always amazed at his legacy of love in my family. We lied once again! We are playing June 29th with our buds Bambi Raptor at the Beat Kitchen. Mariah is out until July so me and Brandon will be laying it down two piece style. We got together tonight and configured my guitar through 2 amps, one bass amp and one guitar amp, along with a myriad of different pedals to fill in the sound. The best result came from both amps with the neck pickup switched on and the tone knob all the way down. Eric Clapton would call this the “woman tone” as this is how he got his muff/fuzz sound during the Cream days. I like this sound though the jangle is kinda missing. I’ll bring the jangle back when Mariah is there to lay down the bottom end. None the less, we had a few psychedelic jams going on tonight with the wah and five distortion pedals. Like a Mudhoney, Black Keys meets Blue Cheer jam. Niiiiiiiice.

Jack Oblivian is coming to town as I’d like to get the Larroquettes on that show. The Oblivians where one of those bands that kicked sooo much ass it was unbelievable. My music mentor, Matt Masher, would crank Popular Favorites in the Mashers tour van when we headed into the city to play shows, pretty much right after that album came out, like 1996ish. I just remember it being really cold out, in the middle of winter and I hated going to the city. I was a suburban boy big time and the city scared me. Chicago always seems cold and damaged. Our band would always play the Fireside so those trips where more often than not. We would drink ourselves silly and by the end of the night we would totally smell like the Fireside, all sweaty and drunk from the show. About 5 people would come out each time, cold ass Monday night at the Fireside. None the less, Matt would always be kickin’ the Oblivians CD and I didn’t get it one bit. I was totally all about metal and shoe gaze at the time. The Estrus stuff didn’t grab me quite yet though The Makers and Guitar Wolf where always favorites. I would hear that the Oblivians would play their guitars through old AM radios and didn’t have a bass player. I was somewhat oblivious to the whole thing really. How strange because all the while The Mashers where playing with bands like Bantam Rooster, and The Henchmen during those days. Goddamn I was in heaven and didn’t realize it! It’s like within the past few years I’ve been able re-discover the Popular Favorites album. Man, I look back and have no idea where my musical brain has been. It’s always all over the fucking place. I don’t know. The Jack Oblivian solo stuff is hella loud. I get the Black Boots 7” like 3 years ago and it fucking smokes. I need to dig my heels deeper. Damn, I hope we get on that show. - Pdizzle

Tuesday May 22nd at Township/Panchos with The Band Droidz from New York. The Band Droidz featuring former vocalist from The Slackers, Marq Lyn aka QMaxx420! The Band Droidz are super psyc very deep rock jams. We like! We are hoping we will have some of the new recording ready as well. Probably on CD but that vinyl is burnin hot!

So we have a show Thursday February 23rd at The Underground Lounge, a show March 6th at the Empty Bottle, another show in March with the Hamburglers at Cigars and Stripes in Berwyn (date TBA), and a possible show at the Mutiny in April with Voice of Addiction and then The Larroquettes will break for 2 to 3 months.

Two of us will be getting married (to each other) in May and we are doing allot of planning and executing for the wedding. In the meantime, while we will be away, we will be putting out a piece or two of vinyl and other music. The remastering of Quartet Looser will be something that will produce possibly a vinyl record (or 3?) as well. Its all up in the air though. What YOU need to do is come to our shows coming up so we can have a bit of a send off in style until later in 2012. - Paul
